About the Podcast

Tandem With The Random is an open-format, interview-based podcast hosted by Brian Kelley (see below for full bio) that focuses on interesting people doing interesting things. The name is derived from a line in the Peter Gabriel song, “Humdrum.” In 2013, the podcast will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who with special guests and features.

About the Host

bk_drwho_bowlingBrian Kelley is a communications professional, writer, musician, science/technology enthusiast and geek/pop culturist living in central New Jersey. He is currently a consultant for a public affairs firm, where he develops communications plans, community assessments, project web sites and other materials for Fortune 500 companies. During 2013, Brian also served as a temporary communications specialist for a large trade association based in Trenton, N.J.Previously, he spent two years as public affairs coordinator for the New Jersey chapter of a national trade organization and six years working in various communication roles at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J., including nearly three years as a writer and editor for the university’s alumni magazine. Other writing experience includes a brief time as a correspondent for the now-defunct Ocean County Observer daily newspaper in the late 1990s.

He has also been a fan of the long-running sci-fi series, Doctor Who, since discovering it one Saturday afternoon on WOR-TV in 1982. You will find Doctor Who is likely mentioned at least once during every episode of the podcast.

Brian’s first foray into podcasting came as the co-host and co-creator of the Technology and the Arts podcast with John LeMasney, which originally ran from December 2006 through December 2008 and was revived as a webcast/podcast in late 2012.

Through the years, Brian has interviewed Pandora Internet radio founder and 2010 Time 100 honoree Tim Westergren, Decoder Ring Theatre founder/leader Gregg Taylor, Aric McKeown of the Mustache Rangers podcast, members of music groups House of Pain and the Spin Doctors, photographer/photojournalist Veronica Yankowski, and former Major League Baseball pitcher James Hoey (Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Twins)…just to name a few.

Born in Edison, N.J., Brian grew up in Brick Township, N.J. After receiving his associate’s degree in print and broadcast journalism from Ocean County College in Toms River, N.J., he went to Rider University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism (public relations track) in 1997.
